Finding your core: The powerhouse
Through exercises from the pilates method, we will work the connection with the power of the core to activate the internal muscles of the abdomen. We will deepen the understanding of the elongation the abdominal muscles and how to strengthen the core without overworking the rest of the body.
Ana Karen Montiel is a professional dancer, and instructor working in Mexico City. She has taken courses in theater, dance, and therapy and is curious about how the three areas intersect. She studied dance in a university in Bellas Artes, and received more traditional dance training from Escuela Nacional De Artes in Habana, Cuba and additionally studied postmodern dance in FL Danse Studio, Movement Research, and studied movement improvisation in NYC and CDMX. Additionally, she is a certified pilates instructor and studied classic pilates with Elena Bartley. The different areas have formed her understanding of dance and movement not only as a technical form, but as a space of liberation and energy. She’s participated in multiple performance projects, always independent, and always connected to the vitality of her ideology.
